BOP worked with Frontier Economics to develop an approach for DCMS to understand the contribution of creative, cultural and heritage sectors to economic growth and productivity
Creative, cultural and heritage sectors make an important contribution to the economy, but their wider impacts on economic productivity and growth are not always captured by traditional measures.
DCMS commissioned Frontier Economics and BOP Consulting to develop a practical approach to measuring these impacts, looking at both the direct economic contribution of cultural and creative organisations and wider effects such as skills, innovation, health and wellbeing, tourism and local economic growth.
The project brings together research, economic analysis and case studies across different creative, cultural and heritage assets. It explores how these contributions can be understood at local, regional and national levels, and how the approach can be applied in practice.
The resulting methodology and guidance will help DCMS and cultural organisations better understand and evidence the contribution of the sector to growth and productivity, including within Green Book appraisal and business cases.
