Culture and Creativity in Global Cities
BOP500
Cultural tourism in global cities generates over $741.3 billion, highlighting culture and creativity as key drivers of economic growth. To unlock these benefits, sectors across the spectrum must understand the vital role culture plays for both citizens and tourists.
We’ve invested in R&D projects to address evidence gaps, creating innovative tools for strategy and planning. Our BOP500 database covers cultural assets, citizen access, international and domestic cultural tourism, and over-tourism across 250 global cities.
Using a rigorous set of indicators, this database helps our clients to:
-
Map existing cultural assets
-
Identify gaps and opportunities
-
Benchmark against peers and competitors
-
Galvanise stakeholders

ABOUT US
EXPERTISE
A global research and consulting practice for culture and the creative economy
Like many global cities, Abu Dhabi is seeking to understand its unique cultural capabilities to enhance cultural attractions and better position itself for global tourism.
By benchmarking the city against 50 others worldwide in the BOP500 database, we developed ranking scenarios for domestic and international tourism, identifying how Abu Dhabi can optimise its tourism potential. We also highlighted the trade-offs between focusing on international versus domestic tourists.
This work empowers Abu Dhabi to better understand its cultural strengths and consider both global and local opportunities – enabling Abu Dhabi to create the strategies needed to expand its footprint.
