The landmark project transformed part of London’s Broadgate estate into a free creative hub for independent artists and freelancers making both a commercial and social case for meanwhile use spaces.
BOP Consulting was commissioned to perform the economic impact assessment for British Land and New Diorama Theatre. Our research included:
Evaluating the project’s role in supporting over 8,800 artists and 1,532 creative projects, with a focus on cultural diversity and social inclusion.
Assessing the impact on nearby commercial areas, measuring footfall and sales uplift for local businesses.
We found that the partnership between the two organisations facilitated artists using these spaces to produce 250 original shows, many of which have gone on to be shown on the West End and all over the UK. It also helped to create a thriving development at a difficult time.
Restaurants, and bars close to NDT Broadgate benefited from nearly double the sales uplift of other retailers across the complex. By attributing this impact to the project, substantial economic impact was demonstrated, resulting in a GVA over £27m.
