Evaluation of ArtsTrain

Building skills and confidence through music

ArtsTrain is a creative music programme run by leading social enterprise Mytime Active since 2008. The programme supports children and young people across the London Boroughs of Bromley, Bexley and Lewisham, targeting those who are not engaged in formal music making and face challenging circumstances, such as development disabilities like autism.

We worked with Mytime Active to understand the impact of their programme on participants, partners and the development of music engagement practice. Our brief was to undertake a robust evaluation which included an in-depth focus on how the programme supports participants to overcome personal challenges, to learn new skills, build networks and enjoy an improved sense of wellbeing. This project draws upon our broad experience of demonstrating the individual, social and community impacts of arts activity. As other sectors increasingly recognise the unique power of creative activity to address social challenges and as pressures on arts funding continue to mount, we see rigorous demonstration of the effectiveness of creative activity in addressing a range of agendas as of high strategic importance to the cultural sector.

Our report and its findings are now being used by Mytime Active to build new partnerships.

The final report can be found here.
