The Greater London Authority (GLA) has just produced a guide - Culture and Volunteering – which aims to increase the number of volunteers in the arts and cultural sector in the city. Although its case studies are drawn from London organisations, some of the 'best practice' advice it offers is more widely applicable.
As part of the launch of the guide, the GLA released the findings of a survey of arts organisations. It showed that:
- 82 per cent of cultural organisations in the capital believe their volunteering need will increase over the next two years
- 54 per cent say they would not be able to operate without volunteers
- 65 per cent of organisations already had a waiting list of people wanting to volunteer.
